This type of polymer is particularly used in specific industrial applications because, in some cases, it can offer better mechanical properties, chemical resistance, or processability than standard polypropylene.


Chemical Structure

Polypropylene copolymer (PPC) is a type of thermoplastic polymer derived from petrochemical sources. It is formed by combining different structural versions of a monomer called propylene. This combination imparts specific mechanical and chemical properties to the polymer.

Physical Structure

The physical appearance of polypropylene copolymer (PPC) typically ranges from white to transparent. However, depending on the specific formulation, processing method, and additives used, the color and transparency can vary. It usually exhibits a hard, glossy, and smooth surface.

Melting Point

The melting point of PPC can vary approximately between 130 to 171 degrees Celsius. This depends on the specific formulation of the PPC, the production process, and the monomers used.


The density of PPC typically ranges between 0.90 to 0.91 g/cm³. This indicates that polypropylene is a lightweight material, meaning it has less mass per unit volume compared to other materials of the same volume.

Mechanical Properties

PPC can have high impact resistance and tensile strength, which contributes to its durability in various applications.

Chemical Resistance

PPC is resistant to many chemicals, allowing it to be used in various chemical environments.

Polypropylene copolymer (PPC) is generally considered a safe material for food contact, so it usually does not pose any hazards when in direct contact with food.


PPC has a certain level of flexibility, allowing it to be used in various applications and molded into different shapes.


It is naturally transparent and has an optically clear appearance.



In the initial stage, the basic material, propylene monomer, is prepared. This is accomplished through petrochemical processes. Propylene is derived from propane gas. Propylene monomers are then subjected to polymerization reactions to initiate the formation of polypropylene chains. This process is facilitated with the aid of catalysts, typically metal oxide catalysts. Polymerization reactions are conducted under high temperature and pressure conditions.

Following the reaction, the product undergoes processing for stabilization. This involves the removal of by-products resulting from the reaction and enhances the quality of the product. Various additives are incorporated into polypropylene according to desired properties. This is done to adjust characteristics such as color, flexibility, and durability of the material.

Polypropylene is formulated to a state where it can be shaped while in a molten state. This is achieved through processes such as extrusion or injection molding. The shaped polypropylene products are then cooled and, if necessary, cut to specific dimensions.


Packaging Industry

Many packaging materials, such as food packaging, plastic bottles, containers, packaging films, and bags, are produced from PPC. This is a common choice due to its durability and hygienic properties.

Automotive Industry

Many automotive parts, including interior and exterior trim elements, console parts, and lining materials, are produced from PPC. This material is preferred due to its lightweight, durability, and chemical resistance.

Electrical and Electronic Industry

PPC is ideal for electrical insulation. Products such as plugs, sockets, electrical boxes, and similar items are suitable for use with this material.

Medical Material Production

Products such as sterilization containers, medical device coatings, laboratory equipment, and medical packaging are manufactured from PPC. This material is preferred due to its adherence to high hygiene standards.

Construction Materials

PPC is used in many applications in the construction sector, including water pipes, drainage systems, coating materials, and insulation products. Its durability and chemical resistance are significant advantages in this field.

Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics

Many household items such as furniture, garden furniture, storage containers, kitchen utensils, and household cleaning products are manufactured from PPC.

Textile Industry

PPC is used in applications such as textile machinery parts, carpets, and woven products. Its durability and processability make it a preferred choice in this field as well.

Agricultural and Garden Products

Products such as greenhouses, irrigation systems, agricultural equipment, and garden furniture can be manufactured from PPC.
